New 3rd gen iPod Nano

3g-nano-mock.jpgThere has been a few pictures / photos flying around saying they are the new 3G iPod Nano – I have the real photos below – God I hope not ‘cos it looks awful. Short and dumpy looking makes not only poor looks but poor usability.

The colours look like muted shades that are anodised aluminium, nicer than the garish colours available now. A bigger screen, why? Maybe for video but I doubt that, I think it will be more for a new interface like the iPhone – you will scroll albums using coverflow.

Looking at them I think it could even be a full size iPod model but Apple has sent notices out to the original sites so I am guessing it is true.

Here are the pics below, you tell me if they are going to be the next model or not. Pics below (the real ones) are from 9to5mac.com and the great mockup is from Miguel

Well, it seems the spy pics were real. Apple has made an ugly ipod!

    Thanks for the comment, James.

Looks like apple have taken a giant leap backwards with that nano!

Yep, not only in in ugly design but also in the more messy interface and now they have also blocked use of other itunes replacements like Floola (here – https://goldcoaster.wordpress.com/2007/02/22/foola-the-itunes-replacement/ )

Looks like you guys were wrong. This Nano is the best yet. While the preference of the shape is pretty subjective, it actually becomes easier to use once you get used to it. The interface is beautiful and the battery time + video capabilities make it much better than the 2nd Gen.

    Thanks J for the comment.

What do you mean wrong, the form is the same (still ugly I think and I prefer small and slim in my pocket) and I am not keen on the new interface, I think it is messy. Like you said iot gets better the more you use it.

Video, I guess, is a plus but I am not interested in that though.

Other sync programs are still blocked aren’t they?

You really believe the new nano is rubbish? After losing my 2nd Gen iPod nano, I bought the 3rd Gen one, and fell in love instantly! The smaller, fatter design makes it easier for you to hold, fitting in your hand. The screen is great, and the Cover Flow rocks!
How is the new interface messy, may I ask? It is almost identical to the old one, but with more upgrades…

And yes, Apple have blocked other sites, because this kind of thing could ruin their business, and don’t forget – they are a business, and Floola is not an Apple-registered product, so of course they’re gonna stop the competition – This is losing them money!

Small and fat is the new nano, and it is a fantastic piece of kit, with a greater battery life and playback. With this iPod and others such as the Classic, iPhone and Touch, we can only expect better things to come from Apple!

thanks for the comment Jeimi. and thank you for defending Apple.
The new interface is messy in my eyes becuase of the picture at the side – my preference. Same goes for the size. For me running with my old nano and the nike gadget the form is great, the new one is too fat.
I also wonder if the battery will last much longer than the warranty, my two nanos never did – battery went crap a week before warranty expired and a week after on the other.not good.

remember different or new doesn’t automatically mean an upgrade.(ever tried itunes 5 it was an upgrade from 4.9)

Floola isn’t blocked anymore so it works great.

They can keep the wider style (with the screen) but perhaps put the phones slot on the side. So, you could put it in your pocket sideways and it’ll feel just like the older gen iPods, because now the phones slot is going in on the less wider side. I think they should consider that for the future.
The wider screen does work with an upgraded interface – I think they may have the right idea going for wide screen (especially with movies and the like.) Although, the thicker design means one thing : it aint going to work with our cradles and speaker systems etc. so we have to upgrade a whole lot of other things as well. Not cool.
