Oh no, I have just came across a little problem with my shiny new install of Microsoft Vista!
I used the Easy Transfer tool to transfer my Favourites and my email/contacts from my old XP install to the new Vista one. This worked well, you can transfer a heap of different settings and data but all I wanted was my Outlook2003 data (five different email accounts and a tonne of contacts) and my Favourites for IE7. It burnt them to a DVD and on my Vista I ran the Easy Transfer that’s built in and my mail now works perfect on Outlook2007 and Favourites are great as well.
Now the trouble. I went to save a site ( CruftBucket ) in my Favourites (sorry I can’t write Favorites 🙂 ) and up popped a message… “Unable to create Cruftbucket. Unspecified error.” I seems to be a permissions problem.
Here is the fix:
Fix by going to User (what ever your user name is) , then right click on the Favorites folder, then click on Properties. Click on the Security tab, highlight Authenticated User, click on the Edit button, and change the access level to Full Control. OK out of the window. If IE7 was open when you did the above, close IE7. When you re-open IE7, you will be able to add new favorites.
I have a few friend that use Linux already – Ubuntu. One went to it because his copy of XP came up with a WGA saying it was an illegal copy (and it was). The hassles the both of them have had.. if you are a geeky kinda person and love tinkering then try it otherwise from what I have seen, stay clear.
I can add NEW favorites to the favorites only file – but cannot add new favorites to the file folders that I brought over from XP. Any fix for this? Thank you for any help!
Thanks for the comment, Computer Queen.
Try doing what I have suggested on the bottom of this post – it might be the cure.
Let me know how things work out.
CruftBucket has already been created, that’s why. 😉
Here is the fix: Install linux.
Seriously, as soon as RT writes his ‘How-To’ guide I’m doing it, I’ve had enough with Microscam.
You spell favourites perfectly 😉
